How the Gard'Apis Sentinel Was Developed
Gard'Apis was born from a real problem: Asian hornets devastate beehives, and existing traps were either ineffective or indiscriminate — killing beneficial insects alongside hornets.
Early designs drew on queen excluder components from beekeeping supplies. A cone-based funnelling system was developed to guide hornets in while allowing other insects to escape. Prototypes were 3D printed and field-tested in collaboration with French beekeepers.
After 26 design iterations, we arrived at a trap that works — and works extremely well. The cones are now produced via injection moulding for consistency and durability.
The result: a selectivity rate exceeding 96%, with bycatch as low as 0.1% when used correctly. No chemicals. No poison. Just smart design.
